The Washington Commanders are set to pay $1.3 million to season ticket holders. The Commanders reached the agreement after allegations of a failure to return ticket deposits and other fees.
According to a report by The Athletic, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares made an announcement on Tuesday. Miyares said that an agreement has been made with the Commanders, and they’ve returned over $600,000 to about 475 season ticket holders. Furthermore, the franchise has agreed to remunerate $700,000 in penalties and costs as part of the two-year-long investigation.
What happened between the Washington Commanders and season ticket holders?
According to The Athletic, the failure to return deposits happened during the Dan Synder administration. The initial allegations revolved around the team’s approach to returning season ticket holder deposits. The incident occurred during a congressional investigation into the iffy business practices during Synder’s ownership of the franchise.
Attorney General Miyares said:
“Our investigation found that the Washington Commanders’ prior ownership unlawfully retained security deposits for a number of years after they should have been returned to the consumers. I thank the franchise’s current ownership for cooperating with this investigation and for working towards correcting the consumer harm we identified.”
