Harrison Butker Overcomes Criticism to Join Chiefs at White House After Super Bowl Win

Kansas City Chiefs’ veteran placekicker Harrison Butker has openly expressed his opposition to President Joe Biden. Despite his criticisms, Butker is joining his team for a White House visit today to celebrate their Super Bowl victory, as reported by The Athletic on Friday morning.

Butker has been vocal about his disapproval of several of Biden’s policies, including those on COVID-19, abortion, and IVF, particularly during a commencement speech at Benedictine College earlier this month. In his speech, Butker criticized leadership and policies he believes have negatively influenced society, including what he perceives as a promotion of “degenerate cultural values” through media. He specifically called out President Biden for his stance on abortion, questioning the compatibility of Biden’s Catholic faith with his pro-choice advocacy.

The kicker’s comments have sparked controversy, drawing both criticism and support. Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes both voiced their support for Butker. Mahomes highlighted Butker’s character and positive impact on society, while Reid emphasized the importance of respecting diverse opinions within the team, mirroring the broader American context.

The Chiefs’ visit to the White House marks their second in two years, a return prompted by their Super Bowl LVIII win against the San Francisco 49ers, securing their status as the first NFL team to win consecutive championships in almost two decades. Their previous victory in 2020 did not see a White House celebration due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today’s event is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. ET, reaffirming the tradition of honoring championship teams at the presidential residence.
